There are all sorts of reasons not to assign static IPs internally to networked devices. The best way to ensure that a device is always seen at a known, 'static' address is almost always to configure the router (or the DHCP server, if this is separate) to assign it a specific IP address, based on its MAC address. It is the DHCP server's job to handle the assignment of IP addresses, and it will do it much more efficiently if you don't try to interfere with it.
