I purchased the cheap eBay offerings some time ago - disappointing performance, noisy, poor output impedance. Only usable with very high input impedance loads. Forget most headphones. The mic input was equally bad.

I did find one relative cheapy recently that works very well. This specific model of UGREEN...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08Y8CZB2S

It operates at 24/96 with a signal-to-noise ratio of "up to" 102dB. I've been using it with a pair of 64-Ohm Sennheiser studio reference headphones and it's totally blown me away for the price. I looked up the datasheet for the DAC it uses and it's surprisingly good for a budget device.
I acquired one of these on your recommendation - agreed, it has excellent audio performance. True 24bit performance 96k unlike the Audio Technica branded device that is limited to 16bit 48k. Interestingly the Ugreen product only activates the appropriate USB connection when it sees an audio device connected, either a microphone and/or headphones/amplifier. This means the output is high impedance until the driver loads, fine for headphones but can be a problem for an amp.
This has replaced and freed up a far more expensive interface.
ATM I'm not willing to plonk down $200USD for a Dragonfly Cobalt.
