No, there isn't an ETA at present, Samba is working hard to create SMBv3 Unix extensions (to replace the existing SMBv1 Unix extensions) and when this is completed (along with some other required work), then it will probably be announced that the next version will be Samba5. Samba is normally released on a 6 month cycle and is then maintained for 18 months, the Samba supported versions are, at present, 4.18.x, 4.19.x and 4.20.x. The 4.20 series gets full support, the 4.19 series gets maintenance support (bug fixes etc) and the 4.18 series only gets security fixes. Any distro that supplies earlier Samba versions is expected to backport bug fixes etc. Then the question of how to install an older Samba version will become very pertinent for those of us who have networks with old third-party kit connected which need to use SMBv1 to access our Pi.Wait until you see Samba 5 (which isn't ready yet), then SMBv1 will be removed ...
Does anyone have an ETA for when SMBv1 will no longer be supported, any idea when that will make its way to the Pi ?
I wouldn't expect to see any announcement before 4.22.0 at the earliest.
