Update:
I did as you suggested and edited the file, resolv.conf.
The nameserver address I used was 192.168.1.254, which I interpret as my "router IP".
I saved the file and confirmed the change. Then I rebooted the RPi5.
I then issued the command, ifconfig, and saw that the eth0 inet did NOT change; it remains 10.0.0.164.
I checked the content of the file, resolv.conf, and see that my change did NOTpersist. My change was overwritten and was not present in the file. It was as if the file was completely replaced; my comments were no longer there.
So I performed a 2nd iteration and the result is the same. At reboot, the RPi5 overwrote the file, resolv.conf, and the inet remains 10.0.0.164.
So I am no closer to resolving it just yet.
