In its normal use case, the CPU quickly reaches temperatures well above 50°C, and into the mid 80s without the fan. Strangely enough, when I came back home this afternoon and booted the Pi up, the fan began to work again. I genuinely have no clue what might be causing the issue or fixing it.
I've had the system set to reboot every night, and keep up to date with the latest firmware. I'm going to keep a close eye on this, but as a relative newbie to Linux I can't imagine that I'll be able to come up with a satisfactory solution on my own.
