Most likely they made it like that for data collection purpose... But it is not good for even security camera relying on server for detecting motion ... makes it unreliable.That's a limitation of many/most "smart" devices nowadays.I dont think they do it on server, otherwise it cannot not be sold to many without dedicated internet.
For example, my Wyze products cease to function when their servers or my Internet is down (can't even turn my lights on/off).
I can understand that for more complex products (like security cameras), but why can't a light bulb operate locally without servers, do they really need the processing power of a server to turn a light bulb on/off? It was super annoying when Wyze had a multi-day server outage last year.
Many smart products end up orphaned and no-longer functional when the company drops support (or goes out of business).
